DRG - Diagnostic-related Grouping
A biller and/or coder can tell you that DRG stands for diagnostic-related grouping, but only a certified medical billing and coding specialist can truly appreciate it. It helps us by pre-classifying certain groups of patients. When we are filing a claim for a physician, DRG makes it less likely for us to make a mistake.
It was originally a system to help the organization of Medicare and Medicaid patients’ claims. They are still primarily used to classify and distinguish the Medicare/Medicaid patients, but now it has also evolved into a whole system to classify all patients. DRG simplifies claim processing.
Since DRG simplifies the work a biller or coder has to do, MBA Medical Billing and Associates can file many more claims in a shorter period of time. With Medisoft software we can make sure that the claims we file are 100% correct, and the more claims we file for you the more revenue you receive. The constant cash flow allows you to better your practice, and continue serving your patients.
If patients have not been designated a group before we begin coding we can classify them based on their diagnoses. DRG helps us classify each claim; we know which claims are private claims and which ones are commercial claims because of their group.
